Recorded at Upaya Zen Center January 5th, 2005

Roshi Joan Halifax begins her talk on koans with a note from R. H. Blythe, who said that Zen is poetry. Roshi then goes on to explore koan practice, as intimate and out of our patterned way of thinking and doing. She then presents the life of Zen Master Joshu, who taught with few words. His famous koan “Does a dog have Buddha nature?” is unpacked in this talk. She looks at Mu as the field of possibility.

We gratefully thank our friend of Upaya, Ottmar Liebert for his contribution of his music and bells used in our Podcast.
